About Gaelectric Gaelectric is a renewable energy group specialising in the development and operation of renewable energy assets and energy storage technologies. Since its establishment in 2004, Gaelectric has demonstrated its ability to create and develop out an extensive portfolio of renewable projects in a number of key markets.

Role Introduction This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated and hardworking software developer to join our fast-growing team. This role will suit a professional with several years of experience in software development. Our software is used across our renewable energy portfolio, in particular the energy trading floor, and our developers are always in close contact with the end users.

As part of the overall IT team and reporting to the team leader, the individual will be supported in developing their skillsets and expertise in a dynamic and fast growing environment, with the responsibility of helping design, implement and test new systems.

Key responsibilities include

  • Working closely with analysts, designers and users to understand business requirements
  • Designing and developing software solutions based on technical and business requirements
  • Writing well-designed, modular and testable code
  • Review and enhance current systems
  • Involvement in the maintenance of internally developed solutions
  • Testing your work in a realistic environment before deploying to production
  • Extract, transform and load data from numerous sources for use in solutions
  • Production of documentation


  • 3 years+ experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong team player
  • Experience with test-driven development
  • Ability to work at pace and on own initiative
  • Knowledge of energy markets is an advantage
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines

Working knowledge of test and production based software environments, continuous deployment and Agile development an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Highly proficient in Python and Java
  • Comfortable in using automated web services, especially SOAP interfaces
  • Proficiency in SQL, preferably PostgreSQ and Oracle
  • Knowledge of Docker or similar container technologie
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services
  • Knowledge of other scripting languages a plus
  • Experience with unit testing

Employment basis is full time upon successful completion of initial 6-month introductory period.
